"Experience the Historic Gaviota Coastline "
This Paddle hugs the picturesque Gaviota coastline, the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline in southern California, making this tour is a great opportunity for the adventurous beginner or experienced paddler comfortable with kayaking 9 miles over 4 hours.
Our day starts at Gaviota State Park, a 33-mile drive north of Santa Barbara, with a lesson covering the basic skills of sea kayaking. We start our 9-mile (approximately 4-5 hrs.) journey down the coast with the wind and current behind us. Along the way, we paddle through lush kelp beds and past secluded beaches, with the chance to spot lounging sea otters, playful dolphins, curious sea lions, or the many sea birds that live in the area.
Our friendly, knowledgeable guides instruct about the natural history of the Gaviota coastline and it's rich cultural past. Midway we stop at a secluded beach for lunch. During the whale migration season this is our best trip for encounters with whales.
The tour finishes at scenic Refugio State Beach.
