How far in advance should you book a tour?

From May 1 to September 31 is considered the peak-season. We suggest you book your trip at least 14 days prior to your desired date. 30 days is highly recommended for the months of July and August.

Who can participate on these events?

Beginners and Advanced kayakers are welcome. For most events, prior paddling experience is not required; 90% of island kayakers are first time kayakers! It is open to anyone in good health, however you MUST KNOW HOW TO SWIM! Enthusiasm and the willingness to learn and get a little wet are all you need to have a good time.

FROM THE SOUTH: (From L.A. Area)
Take 101 north to Victoria exit. Turn Left on Victoria 1/2 miles to Olivas Park Drive. Turn Right on Olivas Park Road and follow Olivas Park Drive into Ventura Harbor. As you enter Ventura Harbor, you are on Spinnaker Drive. Follow Spinnaker past shops and park at 2-story building near Village Lawn -- 1691 Spinnaker Drive. Parking is free.

FROM THE NORTH: (From Santa Barbara area)
Take 101 south to Seaward exit. Turn Left onto Harbor Blvd for approximately 2 miles to Spinnaker Drive. Turn Right on Spinnaker and follow to the end of the road. Follow Spinnaker past shops and park at 2-story building near Village Lawn -- 1691 Spinnaker Drive. Parking is free.

How do I get to the Oxnard Ferry?

FROM THE SOUTH:(From LA Area)
Take 101 north to Victoria exit. Left on Victoria approximately 5 miles to Channel Islands Blvd. Right on Channel Islands Blvd. approximately 1/2 miles over large bridge to Harbor Blvd. Left on Harbor Blvd. 1/2 mile to 3600 S. Harbor Blvd. On the your left you will see a parking lot (Marine Emporium). Park your car. Parking is free. Across from the parking lot is a building Coast Chandlery. Please check in at our desk inside the Chandlery.

FROM THE NORTH:(Santa Barbara area)

Take 101 South to Seaward exit. This exit comes off at Harbor Blvd. Turn Left onto Harbor Blvd.. and follow it for approximately 7 miles to Channel Islands Harbor. The road will curve to the left, but you stay to the right for 1/2 mile to 3600 S. Harbor Blvd. On the your left you will see a parking lot (Marine Emporium). Park your Car. Parking is free. Across from the parking lot is a building Coast Chandlery. Please check in at our desk inside the Chandlery.

What you learn on the Santa Cruz Island trip?

We teach you the fundamental skills of sit-on-top kayaking, which include entering and exiting your kayak, basic stroke techniques, beach launch and landing, and sea cave exploration techniques. As a result, you feel comfortable and confident exploring the exciting waters and sea caves of these enchanted islands. In addition to kayaking skills, our guides teach you about the natural history and wildlife of Santa Cruz Island.

What Equipment does Paddle Sports provide?

Included in the cost of our guided tours: a knowledgeable, safety conscious guide, a stable and easy to paddle sit-on-top kayak, paddle, padded backrest, wet suit, paddle jacket, helmet, gloves and a PFD (life jacket).

How to make reservations for tours?

Reservations for all Paddle Sports trips are available by calling 805-899-4925, toll free at 1-888-254-2094 or NOW online! Once we have received payment for your reservation and a statement of your agreement to Paddle Sport's policies, we will email you a confirmation package, including directions to the launch site, a checklist of what to bring, and release forms.

Can I wear flip flops on the kayaking trip?

We do not allow flip-flops to be worn on our kayak trips. These pose a hazard to you when you are entering the surf-zone or they end up littering the ocean if you flip out of your kayak. Please bring footwear from the accepted footwear list.

How long does it take to get to Ventura from Santa Barbara?

30 minutes (26 miles)

What to bring?

We suggest you wear shoes that can get wet and quick drying clothing (no flip-flops); it is best not to wear cotton. Be sure to bring additional dry and warm clothes and shoes to change into after the tour. When you call to reserve your space, we will answer any questions. Food and drinking water are not included on this trip. We highly recommend that you bring food and water for the day.

Do you provide lunch on Island Trips?

No, the National Park Service does not allow guided operations to prepare food for paying guests. You need to bring your own food. Coolers are fine, there is plenty of room at our kayak area for your gear to be safely stored.

Are there services at Santa Cruz Island?

There are no services on the islands. This means you need to bring your own food and beverages. There are picnic benches and pit-toilets. Paddle Sports has a lock-box that you can safely leave you gear in while we are kayaking. There are also several short hikes that are perfect for after we are done kayaking.

Is alcohol permitted?

Yes. Feel free to bring beverages for consumption AFTER we are done kayaking. Beer and wine is also sold on the Ferry. We will not let anyone who has been consuming alcohol participate in kayaking, so please wait until after the trip is complete to partake.

Where can you leave your gear at the Island?

We have lock boxes you can stow your gear in while we kayak. There are picnic benches at the beach area for you to have lunch at.
