Why do you kayak?
I grew up on rivers back East. It wasn't until I was wandering around America at the age of 19 that I took to the sea on a kayak. Calm days at Anacapa Island, the south side always resets my head; Gorgeous sunny afternoons at Santa Cruz Island with my feet dangling in the water while sitting in front of a huge cave entrance; Winding around San Miguel Island in the fog, the feeling of absolute freedom and solitude; and floating down the Kern, in the moment, very Zen.
Favorite thing to do in SB - Go swimming at Redrocks on a sunny spring day, and on the way home stop at the Cold Springs Tavern for a beer and a Tri-Tip deliciousness.

Why do you kayak?
A friend and I were paddling up the tidal inlet to Le Conte Glacier, SE Alaska, when a pod of orcas surfaced around my kayak. Their dorsal fins broke the surface of the water and just kept on coming...and coming...and coming till a few of them had 5 - 6 ft. of fin sticking out of the water. I would have been a little chew-toy snack if they were so inclined. Very Cool.
Favorite thing to do in SB - kayak, fly paragliders, hike and bike.
