The Island
San Miguel Island is the westernmost island on the Channel Islands chain. This remote location is home to some of the highest sustained wind speeds in the world. This and the rugged shoreline of the island make visiting difficult and landing even more challenging. However, when the conditions are favorable, this island is one of the most amazing. Beautiful white sandy beaches that have remained untouched for months await you at Cuylers Harbor. The issues with kayaking here from a land-based approach deal with kayak storage and the general unpredictability of the weather at this location. Therefore we do not offer land-based kayak trips to this location.
Cruising to Miguel
What we suggest if you want to kayak at San Miguel:
Paddle Sports in conjunction with Santa Barbara Outfitters offers a trip to this island on board a fully-equipped dive vessel. This is a three-day camping trip, and all the camping occurs on the dive-vessel in bunk-room style living quarters. Food is cooked to order and is delicious. This trip offers an amazing mix of kayaking, hiking, and diving at this and other remote locations that are typically very difficult to reach with a land-based approach. We provide you with the proper equipment (or what we call "toys") and bring you to the areas with the most favorable weather conditions.
This trip is called the Channel Islands Adventure Cruise, and you can learn more here.
