Re-Define the Word "Cruise"
Leave the casinos behind. Let the setting sun be your cabaret, this is not your typical cruise. Start thinking of white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, mysterious sea caves, fresh seafood, and warm company. No more than 20 people on this ship. Ports of call include remote coves, ancient forests, and the largest sea caves in the world. After this trip when someone says "cruise", you feel transported just thinking of the untouched beauty that surrounded you each day as you journeyed around the Channel Islands National Park. Explore California's Galapagos Islands |
Kayaking
Sea kayaking is the perfect way to navigate off-shore waters at each of the Channel Islands. Yet one of the biggest obstacles with kayaking here is getting here. Lucky for you, we take care of that. All you need is a sense of adventure. Explore each of the four islands from a close and low-impact sea kayak. |
Guides and Safety
You will be in the company of experienced Channel Islands kayak guides at all times when on the water. Guide ratio is 8:1. Safety is our highest priority and is backed by our 100% safety record since 1991 when we first started guiding at the islands. Clients have rated our commitment to safety as the most impressive aspect of this trip. |
Kayaks and Gear
We will provide you with Sit-On-Top kayaks and the gear necessary to paddle in semi-temperate water conditions (NRS Farmer Bill wetsuit, Kokatat Tropos Jacket, Kokatat Outfit PFD's, Pro-Tech Helmets). You may request closed-deck kayaks when making a reservation, or you may bring your own. |
Sea Caves
Santa Cruz Island and Anacapa Island host over 250 sea caves, collectively, that are negotiable by sea kayak. Depending on the current conditions, your guides will escort you safely into as many of these caves as possible. We will provide you with helmets, and each guide carries a cave light for illumination. |
Hiking
San Miguel Island:
With favorable conditions, we will land at the beach in Cuyler's Harbor and hike to the Cabrillo monument and possibly farther.
Santa Rosa Island:
Anchoring in Southeast Anchorage you can either kayak or skiff to the beach where we will hike to the Torrey Pine Forest, one of only two in the world. Along the way we will pass many Native American trash middens that offer a look into the past when these islands where inhabited by the Chumash Indians. |
Diving:
Surrounding each Island a mile offshore is the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and the start of the Channel Islands National Park. These underwater preserves teem with life, almost more so than on shore. Gigantic kelp forests shade and shelter a variety of invertebrates and rockfish. The Channel Islands have been rated one of the top cold-water diving locations on Earth.
DVD Package:
Professional video footage will be taken throughout this trip. At the completion of the 3 day adventure a short (20-30 minute) video will be put together much like a surf or snow boarding video, but starring you and the rest of the group. |
